Les Bizarrables

Thread and Hack

STUDENTS:
At Casa Flynn the postings are prepared!
At Chez Iguane they're straining at the leash!
Students, lurkers, all you twits,
There's a river full of bits.
Like an information tide,
Spreading info far and wide!

STARCAPRA:
September's near.
So near, it's casting a shadow of fear.
And yet beware.
Don't let September scare you all year!
For the army we fight is a mindless deluge,
A vast volume of dreck that we'll never outweigh!
Oh, it's easy to sit here and plonk them like newts,
But a rational bard just might flush them away!
We need a crew!
To tutor the masses,
To show them the light,
To give them a clue!
Blairius, you're late!

CORLEY:
What's wrong today?
You look as if you've seen a fish.

LEGARE:
Some whine and say "What's going on?"

BLAIRIUS:
A fish you say, a fish maybe.
She was just like a fish to me.
One minute there, and we had spawned!

LEGARE:
I am a cod! I am a bass!
Has Blairius seen fish at last?
I've never seen him wooed and scrod! (Ha ha ha)
You talk of battles to be won,
And here he comes like Don Poisson!
It's better than an O-cto-pod!

STARCAPRA:
It is time for us all
To define who we are.
Do we fight for the right
Way to write in our aquarium?
Have you asked of yourselves
What can I write today?
Is this simply a game
For teenage toads to play?
The channels of the net
Are changing day by day...
Thread -- a chorus of me-toos!
Hack -- a patch to fix the source!
Thread -- to isolate the clues!
Hack -- to amputate the orts!

BLAIRIUS:
Had you been there tonight
You might know how it feels
To be cut to the bone
With a bone-handled deboning knife!
Had you been there tonight
You might also have known
How the world may be changed
With just one gobbled fly,
And what was dark turns light
And what was wet turns dry!
Thread -- a filament of death!
Hack -- a chopping of the thread!
Thread -- that robs me of my breath!
Hack -- that robs me of my head!

STARCAPRA:
Blairius, you're no longer a prawn.
You'd like to swim upstream and spawn.
But now there is a waterfall.
Who cares about your lonely sole?
We swim towards a larger shoal.
Our little fins can't count at all!

STUDENTS:
Thread -- between the yin and yang!
Hack -- to heal or to destroy!
Thread -- the cord by which we hang!
Hack -- the game that we enjoy!
